AFC

AFC stands for the American Football Conference. AFC was created as a response to the merging of AFL and NFL in 1970. The teams that were members of the AFL were converted to be the members of the AFC that time. Currently, there are a total of 16 franchises that make up the AFC teams. The teams are Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and New York Jets of the AFC-East; the Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburg Steelers of the AFC-North; Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans of the AFC-South, and Denver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers of the AFC-West.

AFC football is now a powerhouse conference featuring teams with great athletic abilities. Among the teams are the 2007 AFC champions, the Indianapolis Colts, who went on to win the Super Bowl XLI. The Colts became the AFC champions after defeating the New England Patriots. The Colts were able to become the AFC Championship team in what was considered one of the greatest comebacks in an AFC championship game.

Other AFC football teams also registered some impressive records in the past. In the 1995 AFC wild card playoffs, the Indianapolis Colts and the San Diego Chargers both finished with a 9-7 win-loss record. Instead of playing one more game to determine the seeded team in the conference, the fact that San Diego won in their regular season meeting with the Colts made them the seeded team. The 1987 AFC championship game was only the second time and the last time the AFC champs were determined in sudden death overtime. In that game, the Broncos defeated the Browns 23-20. You can find all sorts of information about AFC on the internet, including the AFC championships history, injuries, trading of players and much more.

In an AFC championship game, the teams will face each other with the official AFC logo on their jerseys. Winners of the AFC championship game wear the AFC champion shirt as commemorative items for the team. The AFC logo will also be placed on the AFC Pro Bowl jerseys in their Pro Bowl game after the Super Bowl. The Pro Bowl game is the All-Star game of the NFL in which the best players in both conferences compete in a friendly game. The best players in the league are voted by the coaches, players and fans to play in the Pro Bowl which is traditionally held in Hawaii. The game is held every year, on the first Saturday after the Super Bowl. This year, AFC prevailed over the NFC 31-28, and Carson Palmer, quarterback of the AFC Pro Bowl team was declared the MVP of the game.
