Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins original name was the Boston Braves. Boston Braves was changed to Redskins when the team transferred to another stadium. Five seasons went by and the team has suffered financially because of poor attendance and local support even though the team appeared in the NFL Championships in their last season as the Boston Redskins. The team transferred to Washington and retained the named Redskins.

The Washington Redskins was born during the 1937 season. Currently, the Washington Redskins football team plays in the Jack Kent Cooke Stadium which was previously named FedEx Field. The current Washington Redskins logo is a head of a Native American Indian in black color with a white background. The head is encircled in color yellow and has two feathers in the outside borders with yellow ends.

The Washington Redskins, in their opening season with the new name and location became the NFL Champions. They would win again against the same team in 1942 but would lose to the Bears on their third meeting the very next year. Two years after the Washington Redskins football lost to the Rams, there would be a 25-year playoff drought for the Redskins. They appeared competitive again in 1971, appeared in the Super Bowl VII the following year, losing to the Dolphins.

The Washington Redskins had their golden season during the early 80s until the early 90s with the help of Legendary Coach Joe Gibbs. The team was able to appear in a total of four Super Bowls and winning three (XVII, XXII, XXVI). Come early 90’s until today, the Redskins was only able to appear in a total of three playoffs since their Super Bowl win. The team finished 4th in their division last year.

Fans have not forgotten their team. Even with the Washington Redskins trademark case, wherein they were accused of desecrating the Native Indians by using the name Redskins, fans still supported them. The case was dismissed. They also show their support for the team by purchasing Washington Redskins merchandise with Washington Redskins logos. The supporters of the Washington Redskins are hoping for a comeback season with the help of the legendary coach, Joe Gibbs.
