Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers was an NFL expansion in 1976. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers was inducted to the NFL the same year with the Seattle Seahawks. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers is now part of the Southern Division of the National Football Conference. The current team stadium of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team is the Raymond James Stadium. The stadium was the second home stadium for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers players. Their first stadium was known as the Tampa Stadium from 1976-1997 and was later renamed the Houlihan’s Stadium from 1996-1997.

The current Tampa Bay Buccaneers logo is a red flag hoisted by a white sword. The flag bears a skull crossed with the two swords and with a football in the center. There is also an alternate logo which carries the skull, the crossed swords and football in a pirate ship. These logos were officially launched in 1997 and are still in use.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers history, especially the early years of the team was not good. From 1976 to 1996, the team only won one playoff game and that was in 1979 against the Eagles. In the 20 years since their opening season, the team has only appeared in the playoffs three times. It was during the time of Coach Tony Dungy that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was able to appear in the playoffs four times in five years. However, because of the lack of offensive power, Dungy was replaced by Jon Gruden for the 2002 season. Gruden led the team to its first Super Bowl win by defeating Gruden’s former team, the Oakland Raiders. The team’s latest appearance in the playoffs was in 2005 and the team had a disappointing 2006 season of 4-12.
