Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions history started in 1929 as the Portsmouth Spartans. The Detroit Lions used to be an independent team that eventually joined the NFL in 1930 still as the Portsmouth Spartans. Four seasons after joining the NFL the team was relocated to Detroit when the team was purchased and was renamed the Detroit Lions. The current Detroit Lions logo is a blue lion in a jumping position.

The Detroit Lions logo has a white border on the inside of the outline. In 2002, a transfer of stadium was made by the Detroit Lions, Ford Field is its new home. Ford Field is the fifth stadium of the Detroit Lions. The previous stadiums of the Detroit Lions football team were the Universal Stadium (1930-1933), University of Detroit Stadium (1934-1937), Tiger Stadium (1935-1974) and Pontiac Silverdome (1975-2001).

The Detroit Lions has won a total of four championships; all of them were achieved before the merge of AFL and NFL (1935, 1952, 1953 and 1957). After their latest NFL win, the Detroit Lions has only won one playoff game since 1958. The win came in 1991 with the help of the legendary running back of the Detroit Lions Barry Sanders. Sanders has led the team to a total of five playoff appearance and their first payoff win in more than 30 years against the Cowboys in 1991. The 1998 Detroit Lions was the last season Sanders would be part of the team. After that season, Sanders retired. The Lions still made it to the playoffs the next year but lost to the Redskins in their Wild Card match. The Lions has yet to appear in the playoffs since.
