Pittsburgh Steelers

The Pittsburgh Steelers history started way back in 1933, and they made their debut in professional football as the Pittsburg Pirates. Thereafter, the team changed its name to Pittsburg Steelers in honor of the city’s steel industry. The name of the team changed two more times before it reverted to Pittsburg Steelers during the 1945 season.

During the 1943 season, the team was named the Phil-Pitt Steagles. This name was conceived as a combination of the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburg Steelers. The following season, Pittsburgh Steelers football merged with the Chicago Cardinals and the team was known as the Card-Pitts. The merger also ended at the end of the season. The reason for these temporary mergers was the loss of players due to their drafting during the World War II. The Pittsburgh Steelers poster during that time was composed of a picture of a football player, with a soldier and the American flag behind him.

For more than 30 years, the Pittsburg Steelers’ regular season win-loss records did not qualify them for the playoffs. However, things changed in their 39th season as a franchise. The 1972 season marked their first appearance in the playoffs, and they continued making the post season for seven consecutive seasons. During that great run, the franchise won four Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII, XIV) within a span of six years, which defined the Pittsburg Steelers dynasty in the 1970s. Their next Super Bowl would take place in the year 1995, but this time the Steelers lost to the Dallas Cowboys 27-17. After ten years, they managed another trip to the Super Bowl to play the Sea Hawks. Though they finished 6th in their division in the regular season and played all their post season games on the road, the Pittsburg Steelers eventually won the Super Bowl XL by defeating the Seahawks 21-10.

The Steelers are always well supported by their local community. Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise with the official Pittsburgh Steelers logo is very popular among fans. Online stores and local sports shops sell various items such as the Pittsburgh Steelers wrist watches, Pittsburgh Steelers static cling, Pittsburgh Steelers infant apparel, Pittsburgh Steelers wallpaper and Pittsburgh Steelers bedding. Other commemorative items include the vintage 1967 Pittsburgh Steelers jersey and the 1933 Pittsburgh Steelers jersey.

If you are a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, watch the fans’ rendition of the Pittsburgh Steelers song called the ‘Fight Song’. With tremendous support from the community, another Super Bowl might be just around the corner. If the Pittsburg Steelers win another one, they will officially become the team with the most Super Bowl wins.
