Oakland Raiders

The Oakland Raiders is currently a member of the AFC-West division of the National Football League. The Oakland Raiders history started when the Oakland Raiders became a member of the America Football League from 1960 to 1969. During their stint in the AFL, the Oakland Raiders won one AFL championship and two Divisional titles. The original Oakland Raiders also became the second team to participate in the AFL-NFL Championship where they faced the Packers during the 1967 season.

After the merger, Oakland Raiders football reached a whole new level, putting together a good run for the first ten seasons. The team appeared in the post season playoffs seven times and won the Super Bowl XI during the 1976 season by beating the Vikings 32-14. The team repeated their great performance in the 1980 season when they beat the Eagles in Super Bowl XV.

When the 1982 season started, the team transferred to Los Angeles and was renamed the Los Angeles Raiders. The reason for the transfer was the disagreement between the owner of the Raiders and the City Government. The latter declined to help in the renovation of the luxury boxes in the stadium. Their thirteen season stay in Los Angeles brought them another Super Bowl during the 1983 season when they trounced the Redskins in a convincing 38-9 win.

The team returned to Oakland during the 1995 season. Until now, the team only appeared in the post season three times. The highlight of these years was a Super Bowl game against the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers were coached by the former head coach of the Raiders, Jon Gruden. This factor affected the team’s performance since their plays were not revamped since Gruden left the team. The Raiders were beaten badly by the Buccaneers, 48-21. Since then, the Raiders have yet to appear in the playoffs. In their quest to relive past glories, the Oakland Raiders’ Jerry Porter, an excellent wide receiver, and offensive tackle Robert Gallery of Oakland Raiders are leading the way to a brighter future for the team.

Support for the Oakland Raiders is still very strong despite their questionable performances in the past few years.
