New England Patriots

The New England Patriots started as an AFL team during the 1960 season. During the New England Patriots infant season, the team only managed a 5-9 win loss record. They were known as the Boston Patriots at that time as they were based in Boston between the years 1960 and 1969. The team officially changed their name to the New England Patriots following the team’s relocation to Foxborough, Massachusetts. The New England Patriots stadium until 2001 was the Foxboro Stadium, which was also known as the Schaefer Stadium (1971-1982) and Sullivan Stadium (1983-1989). The team relocated to the current Gillette Stadium in the year 2002. This state-of-the-art stadium is regarded as the best and the most modern stadium in the league.

The team’s performance in the NFL from 1970 to 2000 was at best average. In the 30 years since they moved to New England, the team only made the Super Bowl twice, out of seven appearances in the playoffs. One factor that contributed to this disappointing performance was the ownership of the New England Patriots football team. This led to a couple of changes to the coaching staff, which caused some confusion in the team. However, this was to be changed after they managed three consecutive playoff appearances from 1996 to 1998, and it opened the door for great things to come.

The 2001 season was the 2nd season for Bill Belichick as the head coach of the team. Drew Bledsoe, the starting quarterback of the team, was sidelined for the rest of the season after the second regular season game. Tom Brady replaced the Bledsoe as a reserve quarterback, and it was the beginning of the Brady and Belichick combination that brought New England a dynasty of championships. The team managed three Super Bowls appearances in four seasons and the Patriots became NFL champions on all 3 occasions. Brady won two Super Bowl MVPs, and he is the only active player today with such an achievement.
