The Kansas City Chiefs started out as the Dallas Texans for three seasons. As the Texans, the team clinched the AFL crown after winning in a historical double overtime game against the Oilers. Immediately after that, the team moved to Kansas City because they were lacking financial support from the city government of Dallas.

The Texans became the Kansas City Chiefs when the 1963 season of the AFL began. The Kansas City Chiefs during that time was the face of the AFL as the owner of the team was also the founder of the League, Lamar Hunt.
