Baltimore Ravens

According to Baltimore Ravens history, the creation of the Baltimore Ravens was the result of the relocation of Art Modell’s team from Cleveland to Baltimore. The Baltimore Ravens were supposed to retain the name Browns from Cleveland. A legal battle ensued and in the end, the Baltimore Ravens became more of an expansion team rather than a relocation team.

Even though the name was changed, the Baltimore Ravens still retained the previous players from Cleveland. With the much experience from the players, the Baltimore Ravens recorded their first Super Bowl win in the year 2000. Baltimore Ravens Ray Lewis was among the most important players in that game, as they trounced the New York Giants 34-7. Other Baltimore Ravens highlights include their 2nd round playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts. Ray Lewis Baltimore Ravens was also a part of this spectacular game.

Without a name after the transfer, the team went in search of a proper name for the team. They started with 100 possible names. After focus groups, strategic surveys and a thousand phone surveys, the selection was down to only three, namely, the Marauders, Americans and the Ravens. A popular poll was created and 33,288 people participated to vote for the new name of the football team. The poll ended and the name Ravens was selected. This name came from Edgar Allan Poe’s poem, “The Raven”. After selecting the name, talent scouts like Andy Weidl of Baltimore Ravens went on to look for great players to join the team.

The Baltimore Ravens are known to be a defensive team, and they were regarded as one of the best defensive teams in the AFC. However, their defensive strategy was overcome by the Indianapolis Colts in the second round of the 2006 AFC playoffs. The Colts, which originated from Baltimore, won the game 15-6 with a total of 5 field goals.

The Baltimore Ravens logo was under fire during the early years of the team. A copyright infringement case happened when they allegedly copied the logo from Frederick E. Bouchat, a Maryland based artist. Bouchat won the case, and the team changed their logo in 1999.
